Both CTE teachers have taken the exams and passed their Adobe Certifications – one in PhotoShop and the other in PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign. They both teach design classes for our Academy of Art and Technology, as well as for the general population at Cleveland Charter. We knew they were experts with Adobe software, and now they have the certificates to prove it!
This summer 28 rising seniors are working what is, for most, their first job, while earning school credit for Work Experience. And beyond expanding their skills and preparation for the real world, they are also having a great time! Interns are placed based on their career interests, and this summer there are students at hospitals, a law office, a youth center, a senior center, a fashion boutique, a real estate company, an insurance company, a chamber of commerce, a restaurant, a cupcake bakery, a fitness center…and of course at design companies (our academy career path)! Interns also attend the weekly seminar class at school where each session focuses on transferrable skills such as stress management, time management, job satisfaction, etc. Two weeks down, four to go, so “follow” this newsblog for more stories about our terrific group of young people and their summer journeys…
Dressed the part, our beaming grads receive their hard-won diplomas and bid farewell to friends and familiar territory. The next step begins now: college, jobs, independence, careers. Go forth and explore the world, dear Class of ’16, and come back to share your discoveries and inspire those that follow. We are very proud of you!!!
Every year the graduating seniors enjoy one last AOAT blow-out at the park – jumper, football, grilled burgers and dogs, and most important: the friends they’ve shared their high school journey with for the past four years!! Stay in touch, guys: with each other and with AOAT teachers. Much love, bon voyage!!!
Final project for Mr. Berkowitz’s Senior Literature class: Create a work of art based on something we read or watched this year. Here are a few favorites: Bluest Eye, The Things They Carried, Being There…can you name the rest? What talented students!!!
Art Club made these stellar shirts for all the AOAT teachers, with funny cartoons for each of us on the back! They silk screened them and gifted us at the year-end lunch: THANKS, Art Clubbers!! Nice graphic design 🙂
This year five deserving seniors won the annual scholarships awarded by the San Fernando Valley Giving Circle. There were many other awards – from academic achievement to creativity to dedication – and the morning finished with heartfelt goodbyes from Seniors who thanked teachers and friends alike. Social Studies teacher Ms. Neustaedter organizes this event, as well as administering the scholarships when winners go to college in the fall. Many thanks for all your hard work!
